Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
Song has a great eye for a pass, but no good if others are static and not making good runs, probably another contributing factor to why his form fell off last season

Should be quite effective this time around..

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
It's like waiting for Christmas isn't it .... Payet, Song & Lanzini together with Sahko ahead of them.
Unfortunately it will be after Christmas!

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
There different players, when Song is fit and returns which looks very soon, then i expect slav to set up the side differently as well, Payet is a big loss but Song coming back in is a big plus.

Pity we wont see them together for a while though.

Highlights on homepage of OS.

Great pass by Song underlines that he will be key in feeding the likes of Sakho and Moses running in behind.

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
He could play in that position but he wouldn't be half as effective.
Still looking forward to getting Song back in the side through. Reckon Bilic will get some great performances out of him.

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
Time for lanzini to fucking shine now, also a chance for Antonio to surely show his stuff, OK he is a winger but put moses in the middle with lanzini and give him free roaming like payet, antonio must be chomping at the bit and Billic has to start playing him.

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
No...

For all the reasons quoted...plus he's not quick enough...free kicks nowhere near as effective...not as many tricks yo beat defenders one on one...

hey Romfordboy, you have cheered me up a bit. Add in Antonio, Obiang and Karate we still have loads of options

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
No is the answer, as Honest Hammer say's he is a deep lying play maker not an attacking midfielder. Lanzini or zarate will replace Payet

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
Less worried about payet than I normally would with squad we have...

Would prob play

Noble kouyate song

Moses. Lanzini

Sakho

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
Song is a deep lying playmaker, not someone who plays in the hole.

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
Payet is the best player at the club
We will cope without him but will pick up less points along the way as he's world class IMO

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
Not a direct replacement but bring him into the team and have other players in different roles and perhaps the old diamond again as many suggest. We will miss Payet but may actually adopt a different approach which teams will have to get to grips with (including our own) :-)

Lets hope Song does not pick up a knock or break down this Wednesday, This is West Ham and the curse is always hanging over us ;-)

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
Song's marvellous threaded passes only have to be slightly off, and they become gifts to the opposition, as we saw after Christmas. He didn't lose the vision to attempt them, but he lost the accuracy to do so effectively.

I certainly hope he's back to his best - he'll need to be to offset the loss of Payet.

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
No doubt about it, he is a top player and his vision is his trump card, Lanzini if Song isn't ready for Spurs and let's show them we are not a one player team!

Re: Could Alex Song effectively play in Payet's position?
Move lanzini out wide and yes song could play in the hole
Also give us the option of going to three in the middle

In answer to the opening post may I quote about 30,000 fellow West Ham supporters?

'I just don't think you understand'.

I'm starting to doubt we'll ever see Song
